I don’t know all of you guys, but I’ve done enough politics in the real world, so let’s do it in an imaginary one! DC True’s duo of political simulators, Shadow President and its sequel, Cyber Judas, put you in the shoes of the President of the United States in 1993 and 1996, respectively, at a time when this madness seemed odd now.

The year is 1990 and you have been named POTUS. It looks like they’ll let just about anyone do that. God forbids the occurrence of world events that need a firm and thoughtful hand. So, with the fall of the Berlin Wall a year ago, Cold War sentiments and Kuwait on the verge of invasion by Iraq, it seems that this will not be an easy period.

As tempting as it is to just sit back and bomb Norway, there are real things to do to win re-election – the Shadow President’s ultimate goal. Budgets need to be managed, foreign aid sent and wars fought. The Chief of Staff of the White House will alert you of escalating situations and you can choose a variety of responses, from a political coup to deployment of troops to a FULL-SCALE NUCLEAR STRIKE. I know one of these sounds more attractive than the others, but put these thoughts aside for a minute. It’s time to get some advice.

You have a National Security Advisor, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Press, CIA Director and Economic Advisor in your garbage. Each of them can go into any urgent issue, pay two cents according to their own goals and perspective.

Whichever action you choose, your performance will be ranked according to four categories: ethical behavior, ambition level, quality of life for citizens, and total world impact. You can compare your location with any country by clicking its location on the map. In the chart below, the red bars represent that country, while the yellow lines reflect your home country. There’s also a visual representation of its strengths through a four-quarter view of a city giving a small replay from charts and graphs. More buildings in the city represent GNP or Gross National Product. The houses on the left represent the wealth of the average citizen, whether it’s a barren wasteland or a sprawling suburb. The buildings on the right represent the military complex, while the beautiful green park in front represents their quality of life; weapons production, military units and nuclear capability.

With all these bars and graphics, you might want to spice things up a bit. Let’s bomb Norway.

Oh, I was assassinated.

Shadow President was released in 1993, avoiding VGA graphics, which was roughly the norm at the time, so it’s not quite a caregiver. Three years later, the sequel came out and the difference in visual fidelity is dramatic. It is ultimately happening in CyberSpace.

Most of the basic statistics focused games remain the same, but the visual presentation is day and night. When talking to your consultants, you go directly to their virtual office, click on it and their avatar appears in the empty chair.

With information hidden behind multiple icon and image layers, its layout isn’t exactly the most obvious. The most important areas are found in what the game calls Jumping Point Icons, which are almost always in the upper right corner of the screen. Clockwise from above, these are the Map Sector, CIA World Factbook, Budget Sector, System Menu, War Room, and Advisors.

These consultants also have search buttons at the bottom of the screen for quick access. At first glance, they function the same as Shadow President, but there is one big game changer. One of them is a mole intended to destroy you and the world. A Cyber Judas, if you want. Go to the shape.

Because of this, the intense political intrigue has increased enormously compared to its predecessor, and once you learn how everything works – you can take a few sessions on your own – you start to feel like you’re playing in your own Tom. Clancy novel. The level of detail and depth of cause and effect of each action make every game very different. The proven use of rules from an AI and Presidential Simulator, backed by a talented developer team as well as research by Tufts University, this can be transferred to the comprehensive World Factbook that is fully included. It plays an important role in the overall design of both games.

This real world document, created by the CIA, is a hell of a read, providing detailed information about every country on the planet. Data refers to their geography, their people, their governments, economies, and defense forces, and they all have a role to play. While Shadow President included the full 1990 truth, Cyber Judas was accurate until January 1, 1993. Updating itself as the game progresses in response to your actions, this book slowly moves from a real document to a fantastic document. Attack Norway and its armies will increase. Nuke em and watch their population lose thousands of citizens. It’s pretty ominous to watch every country change and change depending on your behavior.

How about breaking your plans to rule Cyber Judah Scandinavian countries? You have to find out who you are and weed them out. One of the ways is to place bugs in cyber rooms to get information about privacy and background, but you have 30 seconds to do it before you notice it.

You will be warned that the information you learned is not that cut and dry. How you interpret this information is vital; Does a connection with an engine company trying to sell tanks to South America trigger distrust? Does a family home mean anything if an Austrian Castle moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico?

Who knows. I never got it right. I just wanted to bomb Norway.

I’m gaining knowledge. Is Bradford Gillis a mole?

This presidential simulation tends to be skewed on the complex side. It is confusing for first-time players, especially those who have not played most of these types of games. Relying on statistics, graphs, and breakdowns doesn’t do much to help with problems. Even if you understand all the details of its mechanics, implementing a successful strategy may still be out of reach.

Even so, there are plenty of good things for a particular type of player in both Shadow President and Cyber Judas. They’re totally not for me, but I really enjoyed bombing Norway. Then get assassinated for it. This should explain something, right?
