Assalamualaiakum,
This time I would like to share my experience with implementing mikrotik in virtual boxes, either as a real client management or as an abbreviation for RtRwNet.
Due to the increasing number of clients, my old school mkrotik RB750 is no longer tolerable and the CPU load is good in the 90% to 100% range, which has a big impact on network quality. Especially for gamer users who need a stable ping.
I’ve tried many things to reduce the CPU load, but the results aren’t important.
And finally, I chose the Mikrotik PC instead. The main reason was the flexibility of the PC computer itself, as you could add PCs like rams and add processors as needed.
The PC I ordered finally came. I also considered installing it in a virtual box after assembling it (because the items are separated by component). With virtual boxes, you can still use your computer for other tasks, so it’s more efficient to consider mediocre funding if you need to buy it. My old school leptop also requested that the corrupted alias be replaced, so I’ll commute again for another job.
Initially I installed the PC using Windows 10, but it was too heavy for a computer with only a Proc core i3 ram 2 GB, so I replaced it again. The choice is Windows 7 Ultimate (steel * an) heeee ,,,,,, you know …
After the Windows + driver installation is complete, I tried to install the latest virtual box. I also searched for Mikrotik OS using OVA files. And I found a lot on his blog https://ift.tt/38SqtL3 Lengkap-download-mikrotik-routeros_13.html. I tried almost one by one and found that the files were interesting. That is, MikrotikOS version 6.32.2 with the extension. ova. After trying the OS, I already have 6 licenses and I was able to upgrade to the latest Mikrotik OS without losing the license, so why is it interesting? If you want to try them one by one, please visit the owner’s blog directly …
Installation and setup
A. Materials that need to be downloaded
1. Virtual box ===> DISINI
2. Mikrotik OS 6.3 2.2 file ===> here
3. You can use two LAN net cards. One is for incoming internet sources and the other is for outgoing LAN networks.
B. Virtual box settings
Once the Mikrotik OS file is downloaded, import it into the virtual box, go to Settings and type: Next, of adapter1[network]Replace the tab with a bridge adapter,[名前]Select according to the net card of one PC in the row. Then switch to Adapter2, select Ter-bridge Adapter and name it according to PC Netcard 2.
Adapter 1
Adapter2
Then connect the LAN cable from your modem / ISP to netcard1. netcard2 can switch between hubs or access points (depending on your friend’s topology)
And God is happy and it goes smoothly, if it’s not clear, watch my step-by-step video below:
