Look inside the Korean PC room

I am now 6 months from a one year contract to teach in Korea. Many things have changed, but there is still one constant. At any night you can find me in your PC room. Today, I would like to introduce the local computer room (피시방) in Hammer, Goyang.

Set up with a hammer (해머)

The setup in Hammer is fairly standard. A 30-inch monitor, which is too big for my taste, seems to be attractive in a Korean PC room. An unbranded “game” headset that gets the job done. Most PC rooms also have a mechanical keyboard. There are many brands, but above all, I’ve found these top-of-the-line SteelSeries (or insert other gaming brands) keyboards really worthless. Finally, the Logitech G1 Optical Mouse is the most widely used mouse in all PC rooms. Probably enough to buy one and bring it back to the state.

The main screen is set up for easy access to all of Korea’s most popular games. Please note that you will need your Korean phone number to create an account for most games other than Blizzard titles and League of Legends. In addition, if you want to play something on Steam (SUCH AS COUNTERSTRIKE), you need to download Steam and the game. All downloaded items will be erased after logging off from your PC. Currently the most popular games are LoL, Overwatch, Sudden Attack and Fifa. Also, it’s not worth it that Brood War is right behind the 5th place game with 4.44% utilization. In conclusion, it’s a great place to play if you enjoy these titles, and a little inconvenient if you play various Steam games. CS: It usually takes about 30 minutes to download GO.

One of the great things about the PC room is that you can order food and drinks while you play. It is delivered directly to your computer. Most PC rooms offer a variety of light meals, ramen, coffee and other drinks. However, Hammer has a kitchen and a richer menu. The food is well priced, so if what you want is on the menu, there’s not much reason for you to leave.

Chicken and rice topped with mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce. There are also standard Korean side dishes, kimchi and radish. Overall, a delicious meal of 4,000 원 ($ 3.50 ~).

Most PC rooms have fairly modern PCs. In addition to 8GB of RAM, the hammer boasts a powerful i5 at 3.4GHz alongside the Nvidia GTX 1060.

Hammer’s PCs have excellent specs and are a bit advanced compared to other PC rooms in my area. Especially considering that none of the popular games in the PC room use too much graphics.

Don’t forget the smoking room. There is one in every PC room. Get ready to spit a lot that becomes unbearably disgusting very quickly. I was told by a Korean that this is supposed to fight oral cancer or something … I think you’re smoking … Anyway, the room is usually you in your line It is well ventilated and equipped with large windows to ensure that it returns in time. But suffocation and spitting usually urge me to smoke outside when things get busy.

Have you enjoyed my first post about Korean PC rooms? I plan to write more articles about PC games in Korea in the future.
